Trent Reznor came out with new music today, about a year after announcing that Nine Inch Nails would be taking it easy for a while.
“A Drowning,” the first track from How to Destroy Angels, could pretty much be a Nine Inch Nails song, except Trent’s wife Mariqueen Maandig is singing.
There is a brief instrumental section after the first chorus featuring blaring horn-like sounds that would be unexpected in a Nine Inch Nails song. Other than that, everything sounds like signature Trent Reznor. The song is a tad long at 7:03, but doesn’t drag along at all, with the possible exception of the extended minute and a half outro.
Atticus Ross also appears to be in the band, and the track is mixed by Alan Moulder; both guys are familiar to Nine Inch Nails.
It’s good to hear Trent’s sound again. No surprises, no disappointments, and maybe a little bit of excitement.
Check out howtodestroyangels.com. It’s got cool videos but you can’t see Trent’s face because THIS IS NOT ABOUT HIM. Duh.
